Explore
the History of Sisters Country
Tucked into the eastern slopes
of the Oregon Cascade Mountains, the area around Sisters, Oregon
was the Wild West in many people’s eyes as recently as the
1950s.
Native Americans,
primarily Northern Paiute, used the land for seasonal hunting
and gathering, but never for a permanent settlement. The first
settlers came in the 1880s. The timber industry florished in the
early 1900s. By 2000 its relaxed lifestyle and tourism sparked
the area's growth.
